1- Increased productivity
Time management can help you focus your time and energy on the most important tasks, which can lead to increased productivity.
Imagine if you decide today that you are only going to spend time on what matters to you, not to anybody else, but only to you.
Your productivity will increase exponentially, and therefore you will achieve more of your goals, and quicker.
One of the reasons is that you will stop wasting time on things that add no or little value to you.
Here is an example. What will bring more value to your life: scrolling in the Facebook app for 20 minutes or minding your business for 20 minutes?
This is also closely related to the 80/20 principle. Find the 20% of your tasks that give you 80% of the results and do more of it. Yes, this is also time management.
2- Reduced stress
Time management can help you reduce stress by giving you control over your time.
Have you felt like you don’t have enough time to do all the things you have (or think you have) to do?
Probably yes, we have all been there.
When you manage your time, you know exactly what to do and when to do it. And it gets even better if you follow my other recommendations, like prioritizing, planning, etc.
As you decide beforehand how much time you are going to spend on each of your tasks, you know what and when is your free time.
So, no stress about not having enough time anymore.
3- Improved decision-making
Time management can help you to make better decisions by helping you to think through the consequences of your choices.
When you don’t have enough time to do your tasks, you cannot even think about making decisions. For instance, if you don’t have time for anything, can you decide when to do what? Or when to rest? Maybe, but you probably will choose the wrong time to do it, which will in turn “help you” to procrastinate on important things, on your 20%.
4- Increased motivation
Time management can help you to stay motivated by giving you a clear path to your goals.
When you start achieving things on time and having time to rest, socialize, and enjoy life in general, you feel good.
This, in turn, motivates you to do more and more.
5- Improved communication
Time management can help you to communicate your goals and ideas to others more effectively.
Has it happened to you that someone talks to you and you just nod without even knowing what the person is saying? Maybe because you are so busy that you can’t lose 1 minute?
Imagine you planned how to spend your time, if you have time at that specific moment then you listen, not just hear but listen. If you don’t have time, you can tell the person I cannot pay attention to you know, but we can talk in my free time which is at “x” o’clock.
The result, your communication will improve, you will be able to communicate your ideas better. Also, people will understand that they cannot just pop in anytime, which will lead to fewer interruptions, also leading to more productivity, then less stress, then more motivation.
Great! Isn’t it?
6- Achievement of goals
Time management can help you achieve your goals by providing a roadmap for how to get there.
After you write down your goals, you should create a plan that you will follow to achieve them. Part of that plan is related to time.
Remember goals are time-bound and as I recommended you, tasks should also be time-bound so you don’t procrastinate.
Allocating time for your tasks and for working on your goals, will lead you to achieve your goals.
7- Fewer surprises
Time management can help you to avoid surprises by helping you to anticipate challenges and obstacles.
When you are deciding how to spend your time, you can anticipate challenges by giving you free time.
Several wealthy people like to have their calendars open (without any tasks) regularly. This allows them to do what they like and to spend time on things that really matter.
8- More flexibility
Time management can help you to be more flexible by giving you a framework to work within, but also allowing you to adapt as needed.
If you plan spare time in advance, whatever comes up, you can assign it to that time.
On the other hand, knowing beforehand how you need to spend your time and in what, gives you flexibility as it will help you to allocate your time more effectively and on the things that matter to you.
9- Increased confidence
Time management can help you to increase your confidence by giving you control over your life.
Knowing what you must do at any time, and even better, knowing that you decided what to do at any time because it is what matters to you, gives you control, and increases your confidence as you do more of what you really want to do.
10- Improved problem-solving
Time management can help you improve your problem-solving skills by helping you to identify potential problems and develop solutions in advance.
Imagine that probably the first problem you need to solve is that you don’t have time to do the things you want to do.
When you start managing your time, just by allocating time to your tasks and goals, you are solving one of your main problems.
11- More creativity
Time management can help you to be more creative by giving you a system to work with, it also allows you to have time to explore new ideas and to think about how to achieve your goals. Remember that we become what we think the most about.
12- Better teamwork
Time management can help you to improve teamwork.
In this case, you will have time to communicate with your team at the right time. Therefore, you will be able to properly explain your goals and communicate better.
13- Increased satisfaction
Time management can help you to increase your satisfaction with your life by helping you to achieve your goals in time.
Anytime you can tick off a task or a goal in the planned time, you will feel more satisfied.
14- Reduced risk
Time management can help you to reduce risk by helping you to identify and mitigate potential problems in time.
You will allocate time for this on your calendar.
15- Better financial management
Time management can help you to better manage your finances by helping you set budgets and track your spending.
As you spend time, regularly, to budget and plan how to achieve your financial goals, you will become better at managing your finances.
16- Improved health
Time management can help you improve your health by helping you to make healthy choices and stick to a routine.
Allocate time for exercising each day, for learning how to eat healthy, for yoga, etc.
All of this, plus less stress, will improve your health.
17- Happier relationships
Time management can help you to have happier relationships by helping you to communicate your needs and expectations. Also, as now you can have time to work on your relationships, you will feel better and more fulfilled.
Here is an example of what I do.
Every Friday afternoon after work, I do a barbecue with my wife. Only the two of us. It is marriage time. In these meetings, we talk about what we achieved during the week, and what we are planning to achieve during the next week.
It helps us to be accountable and to improve every week.
By doing this, we have better communication, it helps us to be on the same track, and without a doubt, it improves our relationship every week.
18- More peace of mind
Time management can help you to have more peace of mind by giving you control over your life.
It might sound repetitive, but yes, it gives you control over your life.
When you have control over your life, many benefits come afloat: less stress, more success, you have time for everything that matters to you, etc.
19- A more successful and fulfilling life
Time management can help you to have a more successful life by helping you achieve your goals.
Whatever success means to you, you need to achieve things to be successful.
If success for you is to have a family, you need to achieve things related to that.
When you plan how to achieve things, time allocation becomes very important.
The more you control your time, the more you will do, and the more you will achieve. This will lead to a more successful and fulfilling life.
So, are you controlling your time or someone else is controlling it for you?
Are you starting now to manage your own time?
Let me know in the comments.
Love you, Dad.
